Tonight Yom Kippor starts which is possibly the most holy day in the entire year. Yom Kippor is a day of reflection, repentance and a spiritual fresh start to the year.

My life has changed drastically in the past year. I officially made aliyah a little less than a year ago and have since drafted to the army. I have built my community and life in Israel. I have created deep and meaningful connections with people, marvelled over gorgeous views and slowly began to be able to communicate in a language that I barely knew before. I dove head first into a new culture. I chased my dreams.

This coming year I want to work on keeping things into proportion, enjoying the small moments of happiness and being more forgiving of myself and others. I want to compliment other people more, remind the people that I love how much I appreciate them, write more, be on facebook less, go to more concerts, take less pictures and instead enjoy the beauty in front of my own eyes, hike on my own and continue to figure out who Julia Koby Spiegel is and what I believe in. I want to take time to breathe and reflect.

I’m grateful for the all people who are looking out for me, showers that make you feel refreshed, my bedroom at Hanita, yummy food, the incredible people I have in my life, good night sleeps, everyone who falls under the category of family, people who know me inside and out, my mental and physical strength, my garin, the really amazing relationships I’ve formed in Israel, good movies, crying that makes you feel better, genuine smiles, meditation, people who really really care, clean sheets, clean clothes, portable chargers, deep breaths, fresh air, cold drinking water, having goals, sour skittles, nights when I fall asleep right away, text messages that make you smile and are worth showing to other people, moments when I feel really beautiful, forever friends, the possibilities that new beginnings bring, incredible natural beauty in this world, belly laughs, good luck, voice memos, waking up feeling refreshed, feeling free, beautiful views, really good hugs and delicious dairy free desserts.

May we all have a meaningful year, filled with growth, adventures and strides towards a more peaceful world.

  1. A lovely young woman wishes what all smart, thoughtful young women should wish!
May this continue to be one of your best years. Love, Grandma.
